FCU Community Financial: Transition Information & Resource Hub

A part of bringing our two organizations together, First Credit Union is now FCU Community Financial, a division of Vancity. This change gives members access to enhanced services, an improved digital banking experience, and continued support, while maintaining our shared commitment to local communities and the members we serve.

General FAQs

FCU Community Financial and Vancity are coming together to better support members with enhanced services and a long-term commitment to local communities. The transition brings together FCU Community Financial’s relationship-based approach with Vancity’s services and digital banking experience.

Over the coming months, FCU Community Financial members will transition to Vancity’s banking systems, products, and services. Members who use online banking will also move to Vancity’s Digital Banking.

The changes that apply to you will depend on the products and services you have with us. You may experience changes to:

  • Your member and account numbers
  • The names or types of some banking products
  • Your Digital Banking login and setup
  • Your statement format
  • Your MEMBER CARD debit card arrangements if you currently have more than one card
  • Some payment, Interac e-Transfer and Digital Banking settings

If you use SMS banking, that service will be discontinued after the transition.

You’ll receive a personalized letter explaining how the transition affects your accounts and any actions you need to take.

Yes. You can continue to count on familiar branches, local relationships and a strong community presence. You’ll also have additional ways to receive support, including telephone banking and contact centre support outside branch hours.

Please note that branches will be closed during the transition weekend while we update our systems.

Yes. Building strong local relationships remains an important part of how we serve members. You’ll continue to have access to local branch teams who understand your community and can provide personalized support.

Yes. Supporting local organizations, events, and community initiatives remains an important part of our commitment to the communities we serve. We’ll continue to build local partnerships and support initiatives that help communities thrive.

Local leaders will continue to have a voice in how branches support their communities, build local partnerships, and connect with members. The Community Banking approach combines local decision-making with the broader products, services and expertise available through Vancity.

Most branch transit numbers will stay the same. If your transit number changes, we’ll let you know directly in your member communications if there are any actions you need to take.

We’ve created guides to help explain what this transition means for your products. Review the Summary of Retail Changes or Summary of Business Changes for more information about the changes that may apply to you.

If you already bank with both FCU Community Financial and Vancity, your Vancity membership will remain your primary profile. Your FCU Community Financial products will be connected to that profile, and you’ll continue using your existing Vancity Digital Banking access and Vancity MEMBER CARD® debit card.

If you have more than one FCU Community Financial member number, they will be consolidated to one Vancity member number.

You’ll receive a letter about changes for your personal banking and a letter for each business you manage. If you receive more than one letter for your personal banking, please contact us or visit your local branch so we can review your information, update your profile if needed, and help make sure you can access your accounts after the transition.

Eligible FCU Community Financial members who are recognized as seniors from age 60 will continue to receive senior status and related account benefits.

Members aged 19 to 25 will move to youth status, so they can continue receiving youth account benefits for longer.
