Canada Post labour disruption
*UPDATE* Canada Post resumed operations as of Tuesday, December 17. Postal deliveries may still be delayed as operations are ramped up across the country. If you’re expecting mail from us, please refer to the guidelines below for more information on what to anticipate.
Here are some options to ensure on-time payments and keep your accounts in good standing, even during postal disruptions:
Switch to Online Banking and our mobile app
Setting up online and mobile banking will give you the peace of mind of being able to check your transactions anytime, anywhere. You can pay your bills, make Interac e-Transfers®, and deposit cheques using our mobile app from the comfort of your own home. You will also have access to eStatements online. (Read our FAQ below for more information on how to enroll for eStatements).
Set up pre-authorized debit transactions
Paying bills doesn’t have to be so hard. Avoid unwanted late-payment penalties and make recurring bills hassle-free. Plus, pre-authorized payments can even help you maintain and improve your credit score. Vancity members typically set up pre-authorized payments for their regular and expected bills, like:
- Monthly hydro bills
- Strata payments
- Car insurance
- Gym memberships
- Property taxes
- Rental payments

Set up direct deposit
Canada Post has pledged to minimize disruption by continuing delivery of benefit cheques, including Canada Child benefit, Old Age Security, and Canada Pension Plans.
But waiting for paper cheques can be a hassle. Save time by getting paid quickly and safely via direct deposit. Vancity members typically use direct deposits for things like employment paycheques, pension payments, disability payments, and government deposits. You can log in to the Government of Canada website to set up direct deposit to avoid delays in the event of a postal disruption. Learn how to set up direct deposit for your government cheques.
Enable automated credit card bill payments
Worried about missing your credit card payments? Automatic payments from Vancity chequing accounts are easy and free. You can choose to make just the minimum monthly payments, or to pay each month’s bill in full. Not a member? You can set up automatic payments for the minimum payment amount from any chequing account. If you’re looking to set up automatic payments with your service provider, please contact them directly about payment methods.
